Danos Expectation

The Electrical & Automation Engineering Internship at Danos provides hands-on, real-world experience within an industrial oil and gas environment. This hybrid internship blends remote collaboration with onsite exposure at corporate offices and shop facilities, offering interns the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on active automation and electrical projects.

Interns will gain foundational knowledge in electrical power systems, industrial automation, and instrumentation while contributing to meaningful project work. The program emphasizes safety, technical development, and professional growth, aligning with industry standards such as API RP 14C and API RP 500.

Responsibilities

  • Support active electrical and automation engineering projects through assigned tasks and team collaboration
  • Participate in remote project work using Microsoft Teams and engineering software platforms (e.g., PLC/HMI systems, virtual machines)
  • Assist with design concepts related to industrial automation, safety systems, and hazardous area classifications
  • Contribute to PLC and HMI programming activities, including system integration, visualization, and troubleshooting
  • Work with instrumentation and control systems, including sensors, actuators, and communication protocols such as Modbus
  • Gain exposure to electrical systems, including 480VAC three-phase power and 24VDC control systems
  • Participate in onsite experiences, including:
    • Corporate office visits focused on project management and cross-functional collaboration
    • Hands-on panel shop work involving control enclosure construction and functionality
    • Potential field observation of installations and commissioning activities
  • Maintain professional communication through email and team collaboration tools
  • Assist with documentation, reporting, and general support for the Automation & SCADA team

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field
  • Basic understanding or interest in:
    • Electrical power systems
    • Industrial automation and control systems
    • PLCs and HMI systems
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency or exposure to Microsoft Teams and general computer-based engineering tools is a plus
  • Availability to work approximately 16–24 hours per week from mid-May through mid-August
